Impact of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy on Cardiac Electric Remodeling and its Clinical and Echocardiographic Correlation by Shaimaa A Mostafa in Journal of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Therapy in Juniper Publishers Impact of cardiac resynchronization therapy on cardiac electric remodeling and its clinical and echocardiographic correlation. 50 patients candidate for CRT were included and assessed before and 3 months after implantation by history taking, clinical examination, transthoracic echocardiogram, ECG and six minutes walk test. The Deleterious Effect of Atrial Fibrillation and Its Association with Mortality in Non-Responders to Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy-Juniper Publishers

Image
The Deleterious Effect of Atrial Fibrillation and Its Association with Mortality in Non-Responders to Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy by Osmar Antonio Centurion in Journal of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Therapy in Juniper Publishers The well known complexity of the mechanism for developing atrial fibrillation (AF) accounts for the failure and relative success of the different therapeutic maneuvers in the management of AF. Despite medical improvements made in recent years, patients with heart failure (HF) are at increased risk of developing AF [1-3]. AF is known to worsen the clinical course of HF through multiple mechanisms including rapid ventricular response, irregularity of ventricular rhythm, loss of organized atrial contribution to cardiac output, and in some cases, tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy. The prevalence of AF, in patients with HF, increases with the severity of the disease reaching up to 50% in advanced cases. In these patients with HF, AF is an independe

Retrieval of a Broken Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Migrated in the Right Pulmonary Artery in a Young Girl: a Case Report-Juniper Publishers

Retrieval of a Broken Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Migrated in the Right Pulmonary Artery in a Young Girl: a Case Report by Wen Zhang in Journal of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Therapy in Juniper Publishers We report a case of successful endovascular technique using a snare to retrieve a migrated, broken, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) in a 12-year-old girl treated with chemotherapy for lymphocytic leukemia. This patient received chemotherapy through a PICC line implanted into her left antecubital vein 9 months previously. Computed Tomography (CT) after admission showed migration of a broken PICC into the right pulmonary artery. The broken PICC was retrieved successfully through the right femoral vein using a snare. The endovascular technique is useful and should be considered initial procedure for retrieving migrated catheters. https://juniperpublishers.com/jocct/JOCCT.MS.ID.555555.php

Pilot Study on Prevalence of Rheumatic Heart Disease in Urban and Rural Angola by Echocardiography-Juniper Publishers

Image
Pilot Study on Prevalence of Rheumatic Heart Disease in Urban and Rural Angola by Echocardiography by Michelle Kwokc in Journal of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Therapy in Juniper Publishers Rheumatic heart disease is an important cause of death and disability in young people in sub-Saharan Africa. Prevalence of rheumatic heart disease has been studied in many African countries, but no such report for Angola. The objective of this pilot study is to address rheumatic heart disease prevalence in Angola. Echocardiography has been shown to be much more sensitive than clinical detection of rheumatic heart disease. Portable and handheld echo devices were used to screen for prevalence in urban and rural areas. Five sites with no previous rheumatic heart disease screening were chosen and classified according to levels of healthcare access (Table 1). At each site children between ages 4-20 who consented were screened. Two cardiologists performed onsite echo and diagnosed rheumatic hea

Myocardial Infarction and Rupture of the Left Ventricle After Sexual Intercourse-Juniper Publishers

Image
Myocardial Infarction and Rupture of the Left Ventricle After Sexual Intercourse by Mercè Subirana-Domènech in Juniper Publishers in Journal of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Therapy A 59 year old caucasian male died after having sex with a prostitute. The medicolegal autopsy reported a sudden death due to hemopericardium tamponade associated with myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease. As a comorbidities we considered the death was related to overweight and type 2 diabetes. Sudden death reported during sexual intercourse has low incidence rates but when it occurs while having extramarital sexual activity, a thorough study of the cause, manner and circumstances of death is required. https://juniperpublishers.com/jocct/JOCCT.MS.ID.555553.php

Inflammation in Acute Coronary Syndromes: Systemic, Coronary Plaque, or Myocardial Source?-Juniper Publishers

Image
Inflammation in Acute Coronary Syndromes: Systemic, Coronary Plaque, or Myocardial Source? by Osmar Antonio Centurion in Journal of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Therapy in Juniper Publishers Atherosclerosis is the focal expression within the artery of a systemic disease, in which traditional cardiovascular risk factors and immune factors play a key role. It is well accepted that circulating biomarkers, reliably predict major cardiovascular events, including acute coronary syndromes (ACS) or death. The therapeutic management of patients with ACS in the last decade has shown a dramatic evolution in the understanding of reperfusion. The constant changes in the methodology of reperfusion invite to integrate the recent findings for a better management in the contemporary clinical practice. https://juniperpublishers.com/jocct/JOCCT.MS.ID.555551.php https://juniperpublishers.com/jocct/pdf/JOCCT.MS.ID.555551.pdf
